Welcome to the Ontoloty and Terminology Group, a subgroup of PLN

The Departament of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid has also been, and currently is, involved in several cooperative projects with other universities, including the Psychology Department of the University of Lancaster, the Centre Didactique de Langues of the Université de Grenoble, the Universita de Italia-DORIF and the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. It has developed research in NLP and various systems and resources for NLP applications, including ontology development methodologies, both paper and electronic versions of the Spanish-English English-Spanish Computer Terminology Dictionaries, SIETE, the first CAI Authoring System in Spanish, the Galatea module for teaching French to Spanish speakers. Currently, the people more engaged in NLP composes the Ontology and Terminology Group.

The current interests of this group are:

  • Developing tools and methodologies to manage monolinguistic and multilinguistic Electronic Dictionaries, and Ontology based lexical DB. Applying the tools to different fields of NLP and in Education.
  • Parsing. Using conventional techniques, i.e. Logic Programming, and new ones including heuristics and Genetic Programming. Developing NLP based CHIs.
  • Language Generation. Developing reusable software architectures to furnish customized resources adapted to the different NLP applications.

This research is going to define some projects in NLP focusing to both the Spanish and English Languages  through an agreement formalized  between the Computing Research Laboratory of New Mexico State University and the Complutense University. See agreement: English version or Spanish version.
