What is USENIX ?

USENIX is the UNIX and Advanced Computing Systems Professional and Technical Association. Although in the beginning USENIX was focused on Unix, it has expanded its spectrum to other systems.

USENIX organizes conferences, publish magazines and help students from centers subscribed to the USENIX Outreach Program to their professional development and education.

What is the USENIX Outreach Program ?

In order to promote USENIX around the world, USENIX has established liasons with representatives of Computer Systems education centers to help contact for students interested on USENIX activities. Our Faculty of Computer Systems Engineering participates on this program from December 2001.

What benefits can obtain UCM students from USENIX?

UCM students, thanks to our participation in the USENIX Outreach Program, can participate on USENIX programs to assist to its conferences or win prizes to the best paper send to a conference (it has to be written on English). Also we have access to conference proceedings and other publications like ;login: magazine, which can be consulted talking with UCM liason.
More advantages for students are described at USENIX Student Programs.

What are the responsabilities of the local representative?

Promote among students the USENIX advantages, and show students what is USENIX. The local representative helps students who intend to attend to conferences and even better to send papers to those conferences. There are many possibilities to get a grant for attendance to those conferences.

Also, the local representative is in charge of managing the local USENIX publications library which has proceeding of the USENIX conferences and ;login: magazine.
