Descripción
Open source silicon is becoming increasingly important both within the industry and academia, and it is expected to transform the semiconductor industry over the next ten years, just like open source software has done. An open letter signed by more than 500 European academics highlighted the criticality of open source silicon within European research activities. This has been a catalyst for both national and EU programs working on accelerating open source silicon in Europe. At the same time, there is not much written information about the topic, and very little of this, if any, is taught at universities. This presentation aims to give students and researchers an idea of why open source silicon is important, what is available, and how it can be used in their research or future industry career. After the presentation, the audience should understand when to use open source silicon and where to look for it.
